How it all began
Welcome to Hicks & Brown, we are an independent hat brand started by two sisters. We combine British heritage with contemporary style to design high quality hats that can be worn throughout the seasons and for many years to come. Our unique styles are as at home in the city as they are in the country and can be worn for special days and for every day. Customers often tell us that they buy our hats for the pure joy of they bring.
Every good idea starts somewhere - for us that was the kitchen table in our family home in rural Suffolk. We grew up being creative and loved textiles and design, and we started making hats to sell locally at small fairs. One Easter Saturday we took a pitch at a nearby point-to-point and sold every hat. It spurred us on to book a stand at Burghley Horse Trials in 2014 and we were amazed by the reaction we received at such a big show. Things really took off from there. By 2016 orders were coming in from shops and we hired our first team members. We’re delighted to say that they are still with us today!
Nature and the British countryside have always been an inspiration and that’s evident in our designs. From the natural feathers that finish our fedoras, to the flecks of colour that mirror the rural landscape in our Tweed Baker Boy caps. So, when we launched our brand, it felt natural to incorporate the name of our family home in Suffolk where it all started, Hick’s Farm.
There have been a few pinch-ourselves moments over the years, but the Princess of Wales wearing Hicks & Brown has to be the highlight. In 2020, she wore the Suffolk Fedora in Navy to a church service with the Queen at Sandringham. Then, on her and Prince William’s 10th wedding anniversary in 2021, she wore the same style in Olive for a family walk on the beach. Not only did she look incredible, she exemplified what our brand is all about; wearability, versatility and adding understated elegance to your day.
Over time, our range has expanded to include year-round fedoras, summer fedoras and formal hats, as well as Baker Boy caps that can be worn by men and women. And our colour palette ranges from sophisticated neutrals to uplifting brights. Throughout it all, our customers have been a huge part of the journey, with their invaluable feedback and the unique ways they wear Hicks & Brown.
Today, our hats are sold in stores across the UK and USA, but our philosophy remains the same. We’re an independent brand with a focus on high quality, inventive design and giving customers the best possible service - as well as something special that will always be in style.
