Three simple steps on how to measure your head:
Gather your materials
All you need is a flexible measuring tape (such as a dressmaker’s tape) or a piece of string and a ruler.
Measure your head
Position the measuring tape around your head where your hat will sit. This is typically about 1cm above your ears and across the middle of your forehead. Ensure the tape is level and sits snugly, but not too tight. You want a comfortable fit. If you’re using a string, mark the point where it meets and measure it against a ruler.
Find your size
Once you have your head circumference in centimetres or inches, compare it to the Hicks & Brown sizing guide:
Extra Small (53-54cm) Small (55-56cm) Medium (57-58cm) Large (59-60cm) Extra Large (61-62cm).
If you find yourself between sizes, we recommend sizing up for a more comfortable fit. You can order a pack of our hat resizers which bring the fit in tighter.
Our hats are crushable but we advise not to do this for prolonged periods of time or they are likely to miss-shape.
You are best to either wear your hat through the airport and take as carry-on on the plane.
The Hicks & Brown Hat Clip is a hands-free way to travel with your hat, simply attach to your bag and use the strong magnet to grasp onto the brim of your hat.
Alternatively we suggest for you to pack your hat into a hard suitcase and pack clothing inside the crown and all around the brim for protection.
Straw hats do require a little more TLC due to the delicate nature of the material but by following our handy guide you can ensure your summer hat is kept in pristine condition and looking as fresh and clean as possible. This blog post aims to guide you on how to remove dirt marks without ruining or damaging it.

Steps and top tips to a clean summer hat:
How to clean sweat stains out of hats?
Ideally, wipe a stain using a clean damp piece of cloth with a little bit of dish soap. We find baby wipes work equally well for wiping off make up marks too!
When it comes to storing your hat, it is best to keep it away from direct sunlight and heat and hang it on a hook or place it flat in your wardrobe ensuring nothing is squashing it, which over time would cause it to miss-shape. If your hat came with a box, we advise to keep it stored in there when not in use for maximum protection.
The ribbons bands are fixed firmly to the hat so are unfortunately not interchangeable.
